Tatagan's political life
BIOGRAPHIE

Its diplomatic influence in the region

Tatagan held an important position and influence in the commercial and diplomatic spheres of his region. As well as being a formidable trader, he was also a diplomat with many responsibilities, including Chief of Adjido, interlocutor during exchanges with Europeans, President of a court, and was also awarded the Etoile Noire du Bénin (Black Star of Benin)... He was a man who left his mark on his time.

A true strategist, he often challenged all his rivals. He almost always won.
Often plots and intrigues were hatched against him. When they were reported to him, he would say: "Abuluwaku", meaning: "only those who plot in the shadows will perish". Tatagan's returns from his travels were said to be worthy of a legendary tale. Preceded by tom-tom drummers, dancers and a whole procession of supporters and onlookers, his company formed a long caravan. They marched to the rhythm of the songs of praise sung in his honour and that of King Behanzin by a few Amazons generously donated by the King of Abomey.
Since then, our rituals and songs have been expressed in Fon.
